How do I go about booking my charter?
Booking your Charter with Cetacean by Catch is simple, just use our contact form or fill in and submit to us the yacht charter application/resume (required to charter) and tell us which yacht you would like to charter and when.  If the yacht is available, your reservation deposit in the amount of $250.00 temporarily (up to 15 days) secures the yacht for the requested dates; Cetacean by Catch will send to you two copies of the yacht charter agreement, one for your records and one for ours.  Fill in, sign and return the completed agreement with payment for the balance of 50% of the total charter fee within 15 days to secure the charter.  Final payment is due thirty days before boarding. In the event that the charter is booked less than 30 days of scheduled boarding, full payment is required to secure the charter. (top)

Am I expected to leave a security deposit and if so, what does it cover?
A security deposit in the amount of $1,500, or an amount equal to the insurance deductible (greater amount applies), is required for all charters.  It is payable by personal check 14 business days prior to boarding or by credit card (charge will be made against card for full amount of deposit prior to departure), cash, certified or traveler's check the day you board.  The deposit covers any necessary damage repairs, cleaning, fueling, loss of business revenue, or any other fees that you are responsible for. Should any damage (other than negligence or willful acts) exceed the amount of the security deposit, Cetacean by Catch' insurance policy will cover the costs.  Failure to provide a deposit causes charterer to assume full financial liability for any accidents, damages, or losses. Security deposits will be returned within 10 business days unless there are unresolved charges against the deposit. (top)
  How are the yachts equipped?
All of Cetacean by Catch yachts are fully equipped for a live-aboard vacation. The inventory includes all US Coast Guard required safety equipment plus an inflatable dinghy (may require additional fees and deposit) with outboard.  In addition to the required equipment, our yachts have many added amenities. The specific equipment for each vessel is included with the boat listings. There is also a list of the general yacht inventory on this web site. For an additional charge of $30.00 we provide linens and towels. (top)
  What am I responsible for?
Once you have boarded, you are responsible for the yacht and its equipment just as if you owned the vessel.  The vessel is to be returned in the same condition as when received by you for charter. The vessel must be returned clean and undamaged, with the equipment inventory intact, fuel and fresh water tanks full, and holding tanks empty; if not, appropriate charges will be made against your security deposit. (top)
What if the yacht develops problems?
In the unlikely event that the yacht develops problems, e.g. if the engine breaks down or some other problem occurs that prevents you from continuing your charter, you have several options. The US Coast Guard does not respond to anything other than life-threatening emergencies. We monitor channel 12 on the VHF or you can call us via your cell phone or marine operator at our office. We will make every reasonable effort to get you going as quickly as possible. If you need towing there are several companies that do this, but be aware, they are very expensive unless you have pre-arranged coverage.  Sail to a mooring if possible, or anchor in a safe area.  Contact a local marina and request assistance. You are liable for all charges or liens from such marina unless we authorize their services. (top)
When can I board the yacht?
You may board the yacht the night before your charter begins at no extra charge. The charter normally begins at 8:30 am of the first day and ends at 4:30 pm of the last day. Cetacean by Catch begins checkouts at 8:30 am in order of arrival of Charterers. We make our best effort to get you off the dock as soon as possible. For an earlier departure you may schedule your checkout for the day (or earlier) before; this will require that you arrive early enough the day before to be ready to begin your checkout by 4pm at the latest.

We can also schedule your charter from noon to noon. Using this scheduling method, a 7 day charter would be 8 days on the calendar.  The first and last days would be half-days.  This scheduling may be more convenient for those who have a long travel time or late arrivals. (top)

What is involved in the checkout?
The first time you charter with Cetacean by Catch we require a checkout (for a one time fee of $65) which involves on the water maneuvering.  This serves two purposes; it gives you a chance to become familiar with how the yacht handles and demonstrates your handling abilities to us.  All checkouts, first-time and subsequent, involve: review of the vessels' systems, engine operation, thru-hull locations, operation of the galley stove, operation of the head and holding tanks systems, water systems, electrical system, electronics, rigging, the location of safety equipment and a check of the inventory.  We ask you to provide us with a float plan and we will conduct a chart review of the area with you and your crew as desired. The checkout takes about one and one-half to two hours.  Please allow an additional half-hour for the first-time check out. (top)
When am I expected to return?
You are expect to return to the dock by 4:30pm the day your charter ends.  If you have booked noon to noon you are required to be back at the dock by noon. For a typical three day charter that is scheduled to start at 8:30am on a Friday, you are expected to return by Sunday at 4:30pm.  A typical noon-to-noon three day charter would start at noon on Thursday and your return would be noon on Sunday. Our scheduling is sometimes back-to-back; i.e., someone may be waiting to board your vessel as soon as it comes back and is made ready for the next charter. If, for some extreme reason you are delayed, make sure to call the Cetacean by Catch office so we may plan accordingly.  Poor planning for tides or weather are not acceptable excuses for returning late. There will be a $60.00 per hour fee charged for late returns.
What am I expected to do upon our return?
Upon your return you are expected to make sure the holding tank is empty and stop at a fuel dock to top off your fuel tank; you must attach the fuel purchase receipt to your Vessel Return Form. The Mystic River marina and the Noank Shipyard have diesel fuel and are on your way back to the Mystic Shipyard. Once back at the marina, dock the yacht in its assigned original slip, fill the water tanks, remove your personal gear along with any remaining food and trash. Any water or leftover ice must be emptied from the ice box. The yacht must be cleaned by you; this includes wiping down the heads, sweeping out the cabins and salons, cleaning the galley, washing the dishes and stove; also washing the decks and rigging with fresh water and scrub brush.  There are hoses on the dock.  Buckets, sponges, deck brushes and cleaning supplies are provided onboard; more are available at the dock.  The "Return Form" must be filled out and signed.

To insure the quality of our charter vessels for you and the next person who charters we conduct a thorough inspection that includes the boat inventory, keel, and underwater gear after each charter. Your damage deposit will be returned within ten business days if there are no unresolved problems from these inspections.  In the event that a diver notes damage underwater you will be charged, at a minimum, for a haul-out inspection at a rate of $20.50/ft. of vessel LOA (Length Over All) (top)

Why should I charter from Cetacean by Catch rather than someone else?
Cetacean by Catch offers some of the newest yachts available in our cruising area. They are fully equipped so all you need bring is food and clothing.  We don't claim to be perfect but with our close attention to detail we try hard to come as close to perfect as possible.  You have our guarantee that we will do our best to serve you.  We are a pleasure business which means we are here to please you. If you have any special needs in services or scheduling don't hesitate to ask us. We will do our very best to accommodate you. Remember, the earlier you book the more flexibility we can offer in scheduling.  (top)
  Where are we located?
Cetacean by Catch is located at the Mystic Shipyard on the Mystic River at Red Nun "30".  By car we are five minutes from I-95.  If you are coming from Rhode Island on I-95 take exit 89 (Allyn Street exit) and turn left at the end of the ramp (turn right if you're coming from New York). Drive straight 1.8 miles through two lights, then two four-way stop signs (second one is Noank Road). Go straight through (after stopping of course!).  You will pass the West Mystic Post Office on your left and then turn left onto School St. to cross the railroad tracks at the stop sign.  Mystic Shipyard will be directly in front of you; follow the curve around to the right (School St. becomes Essex St.). Enter at the first gate on your left; the Yard Office is straight ahead on the water's edge. Our office is up the center set of steps on the second floor. (top)

Thank you for considering Cetacean by Catch!
We look forward to serving you
